Blessed Joseph Gerard – May 29

Wisdom Wed

“We must love them, love them in spite of everything, love them always.”

~ Blessed Joseph Gerard, in his retreat notes

“The secret of his holiness, the key to his joy and zeal, was the simple fact that he lived continually in the presence of God. Blessed Joseph’s whole life was caught up in the love of the Holy Trinity. People wanted to be near to Father Gérard because he always seemed near to God. He was filled with a spirit of prayer, nourished daily by the Liturgy of the Hours and by frequent visits to the Blessed Sacrament. He had a fervent devotion to the Mother of God and the Saints. During his long and difficult journeys to outlying missions and the homes of the sick, he conversed continually with his beloved Lord. It is undoubtedly this vivid sense of being always in the presence of God that explains his lifelong fidelity to his religious vows of chastity, poverty and obedience and to his obligations as a priest.”

~ Pope Saint John Paul II, homily at the beatification of Blessed Joseph Gerard, September 1988

Saint Rita of Cascia – May 22

Wisdom Wed

“Holy Patroness of those in need, Saint Rita, so humble, pure and patient, whose pleadings with thy Divine Spouse are irresistible, obtain for me from thy Crucified Christ my request (mention it here). Be kind to me, for the greater glory of God, and I promise to honor thee and to sing thy praises forever.

Oh glorious St. Rita, who didst miraculously participate in the sorrowful Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ, obtain for me the grace to suffer with resignation the troubles of this life, and protect me in all my needs. Amen.”

~ Prayer to St. Rita of Cascia

Saint Isidore the Farmer – May 15

Wisdom Wed

“Blessed St. Isidore, you know how normal it is to cultivate the land for you were employed as a farm laborer most of your life.  Although you received God’s help materially through Angels in the field, all farmers are aided spiritually to see the wonders God has strewn on this earth.  Encourage all farmers and laborers and help them to feed many people.  Amen.”

~ Prayer to St. Isisdore the Farmer

Monthly Meditation – MAY

“Every home should feel the sunshine of God’s love radiating through it.  Remember that he has called you by name, you are his, you are precious to him, he loves you.  Those we life with belong to him, are precious to him.  Such knowledge should become the burning flame of God’s love in our homes.  May we each grow into the likeness of Christ through love for each other.”

~ Saint Theresa of Calcutta

For reflection:

  1. In what ways do I know God’s love for me and show that “burning flame of God’s love” in our homes?
  2. In what specific areas of my life do I need to work on in order to show the love of Christ in my love for others?

***IMPORTANT NOTICE***

If you have one of the first flyers that went out about the Encountering God series, the dates of the events had to be changed due to a problem with finding a venue for May 4th.

Please note: The Encountering God series begins MAY 11, NOT May 4th as previously scheduled.

If you have one of those old flyers from the last Theology on Tap, toss it a grab a new one at Movie Night next weekend. 😁
