Fall 2022 Bible Studies!

We are excited to be able to offer a great variety of Bible Studies this Fall! Some are in person, some are on Zoom and they are all led by amazing people who are on this same journey to learn more about God and our wonderful Catholic Faith!

*NEW* What We Believe: The Beauty of the Catholic Faith: Meets Tuesday Mornings, from 9AM- 11AM in the Gathering Space and the Library; 10 Sessions, starts September 20th, Ends December 6th– Cost: $35

What is the Catholic Church all about? What does it mean to be Catholic? What do Catholics actually believe? The Catholic Church is extraordinary. Founded by Christ himself, the Catholic Church is where we encounter God in his Word, his sacraments, and his saints. The Church faithfully proclaims the fullness of faith, leaving no truth out. It proclaims the fullness of life, leaving no person out. It calls all to repent and to believe in God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, the source of all life and salvation. Maybe you’ve been Catholic your entire life. Maybe you’re just beginning to explore the Catholic Faith. Wherever you may be in your journey, you will be profoundly moved by the beauty and the richness of the Catholic Church.

Epic: A Journey Through Church History: Meets Tuesday Mornings, from 9AM- 11AM in the Youth Center, Lower Level, Room B; 20 Sessions (will continue into next year), starts September 20th, Ends March 7th– Cost: $30

This is our story, our family. As Catholics, we are the inheritors of holy men and women who over two thousand years built a great civilization and spread the gospel throughout the world. The history of the Church is not just the recitation of popes and saints; it is a story of adventure, intrigue, rebellion, reform, and devotion. In this study you will learn about the important people, places, and events in over two thousand years of Church history. You will discover the true stories behind the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, and the Protestant Reformation. You will also learn about the massive persecution of Christians in the twentieth century. Throughout, you will be gaining an understanding of the workings of the Holy Spirit in our Church. The better we know our history, the better prepared we will be to face the future.

Matthew: The King & His Kingdom: Meets Tuesday Nights, from 6:30PM- 8:30PM in the Youth Center (Long Ave.) Lower Floor, Rm. B; 24 Sessions (will continue into next year), starts September 20th, Ends April 4th– Cost: $40

This study shows how Jesus fulfills God’s promises to Israel and establishes his kingdom on earth. Through references to the Old Testament promises of God to his people and the messages God sent them through the prophets, this Bible study provides the key to understanding the rest of the New Testament and Christ as the fulfillment of God’s plan. Matthew portrays Jesus as the true King who fulfills the Law the people of Israel have failed to keep and who introduces the new law that will accompany the New Covenant. In this 24-part study of Matthew’s Gospel, Jeff Cavins explains how Jesus is challenging and empowering us to a new level of holiness and shows how we must be thoroughly immersed in the kingdom of heaven on earth, the Church, to live it.

Life Eternal: Meets on Wednesday Mornings, from 9AM- 11AM in the Lower Level of the Youth Center; 7 Sessions, starts September 21st, Ends November 9th– Cost: $20

The biblical promise of eternal life appears late in Scripture, but it blossoms into fullness with the resurrection of Christ. Explore the growing nature of the hope of those who have called upon the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the past, and the crystallization of our hope for eternal life in the victory of Christ over death. Those with some familiarity with Scripture will find it both inspiring and informative as the hope of eternal life develops and crystallizes through the sweep of salvation history.

Revelation: The Kingdom Yet to Come: Meets Thursday nights on Zoom, from 6:30PM- 8:30PM; 11 Sessions, starts September 22nd, Ends December 8th– Cost: $30

Perhaps no book of the Bible fascinates people more than Revelation. Yet relatively few people have studied it, especially from a Catholic perspective. Revelation: The Kingdom Yet to Come shows how the kingdom established by Christ in his Church is intimately connected with the kingdom of heaven. In this study, presenter Jeff Cavins pulls back the veil on the rich symbolism present in Revelation. Discover what the mysterious figures and images of Revelation mean and see how Revelation is more than an apocalyptic vision of the “end times.” Explore the Church’s teaching on the second coming of Christ and the Last Judgment. Understand how God, the Divine Bridegroom, and the Church, his spotless bride, enter into a heavenly, holy, and mystical marriage every time we celebrate Mass.

SURVIVING DIVORCE:  Meets Monday nights, from 6:30PM – 8:30PM in the lower level of the Youth Center, Room C (1080 Long St, Richland); 12 Sessions, starts September 12th, Ends Dec. 12th                                           Come join others who have experienced separation and divorce. In this video series, Rose Sweet, Catholic author, speaker, and pastoral counselor, tackles the pain and suffering of divorce from her own experience and that of the Catholic Church. Joined by a group of distinguished priests and professionals who have dedicated their lives to helping people understand and cope with loss and grief, they will guide you through the shock, anger, denial, and emotional upheaval of separation and divorce.  Questions? Or to sign up, contact Meggin Sanner (541-571-8402) or ckadultre@gmail.com or Elizabeth at 509-420-4509.

Jesus: The Way, the Truth and the Life: (10 weeks)- Tuesday mornings at 9AM- 11AM in the Gathering Space, starts on Sept. 21st
Jesus is more than a historical or theological figure. He is our Savior, our Redeemer, our Lord, and our God. While many of us already know a lot about him, how well can we say we really know him? Filmed on location in the Holy Land, Jesus: The Way, the Truth, and the Life is a new and fresh look at Jesus—who he is, what he is really like, what he taught, and what he did for our salvation. Cost: $35

Psalms: The School of Prayer: (11 weeks)- Tuesday mornings at 9AM- 11AM in the Youth Center, Rm B, on Long Ave, starts on Sept. 21st
The Holy Spirit inspired them. Israel sang them. Christ himself prayed them, as did our Blessed Mother. At the heart of the Bible are the Psalms, prayers from God that help us to pray. In the Psalms: The School of Prayer, discover how these sacred hymns become our heartfelt response to God’s loving and wondrous deeds for us. Cost: $30

** (NEW)** The Bible Timeline: The Story of Salvation: (24 weeks)- Tuesday evenings at 6:30PM- 8:30PM in the Youth Center, Rm B, on Long Ave, starts on Sept. 28th. The Bible Timeline study program takes you on a guided journey through salvation history. Presenter Jeff Cavins will show you how fourteen of the Bible’s narrative books tell the biblical story from beginning to end and will give you the keys to understanding the amazing story woven throughout Scripture. Acts: The Spread of the Kingdom: (20 weeks, will continue into Spring 2022)- Thursday nights at 6:30PM- 8:30PM virtually, starts on Sept. 23rd (Their first meeting will be in person in the Gathering Space on Sept. 23rd)
The book of Acts shows the work of Christ continuing beyond his resurrection as he empowers believers with the Holy Spirit to do his work. It follows the journeys of the Apostles as they preach the Good News and expand the Kingdom of Heaven throughout the earth. Acts is the story of how a few Christians, empowered by the Holy Spirit, were chosen to bring Christ and the Good News to the ends of the earth. They faced secular forces, internal strife, and hostile crowds, and despite all of this, they brought the kingdom of God to a broken world and the love of God to the hearts of men. Acts: The Spread of the Kingdom traces how the gospel witness spread outward in waves from Jerusalem, and reveals how the seeds of Church structure and authority took root.
This bible study will be meeting virtually, except for 4 sessions, when they may meet in person in the Gathering Space– Cost: $40

The series is beautifully filmed on location in the Holy Land, highlighting sacred places such as the Sea of Galilee, the River Jordan, the desert of Temptations, and many of the holy sites in Jerusalem. This 10-part series featuring Fr. Dave Pivonka, TOR, President of Franciscan University and founder of The Ministry of the Wild Goose, leads us on a journey with Christ into conversion. Each of the episodes explores areas of our life where conversion is so often necessary. New online Bible study available for Lent!

If you are looking for a way to grow closer to Jesus this Lenten season but lack the opportunity to join a regular weekly Bible study, we have just set up an online Lenten class for Ascension Press’ latest study:  No Greater Love: A Biblical Walk Through Christ’s Passion.

Filmed on location in the Holy Land, No Greater Love is a five-part video series and full-length book that reveals Christ’s amazing love for us. Best-selling author Edward Sri guides you through the last hours of Christ’s life in this biblical pilgrimage.

While taking this study or reading this book, you will walk step-by-step with Jesus from the Garden of Gethsemane to the Mount of Calvary.

Every step of the way, biblical experts reveal how Old Testament prophecies, messianic expectations, biblical symbolism, and historical context shed light on the mystery of Christ’s suffering and death.

With these insights, Catholics can come to a deeper understanding and appreciation of God’s immeasurable and unconditional love—drawing closer to Jesus than ever have before.

Authored and presented by Edward Sri, No Greater Love also features: Fr. Mike Schmitz, Jeff Cavins, Jennifer Fulwiler, Curtis Martin, Teresa Tomeo, Fr. Josh Johnson, and Elizabeth Sri.

Jesus doesn’t want our applause. He wants our hearts. Are you ready to draw closer to Jesus in his passion than you ever have before?

Discussions for this study will be facilitated directly from a moderated thread on the class page at Ascension Press.  Though we recommend viewing the videos on the Fridays leading up to Good Friday, there is no specific time commitment; you can watch the videos, post a comment, or complete the workbook activities at any time that is convenient for you.  If you are an individual, a couple, a family, or a small group, this format is perfect for studying together without ever having make the trek to the church!

To register and purchase materials for this study, please visit:  https://ascensionpress.com/studies/38149/registrations/new. If you have not already created an account at Ascension Press, you will be directed to do so before you will be able to purchase the STUDY PACK in order to participate in this study.
