Mary, Mother of the Church…A New Feast Day for our Blessed Mother!

Did you know?  Today is a new feast day for Mary, under the title Mother of the Church, instituted by Pope Francis as a Memorial.  This new feast in the Roman calendar will take place every year on the Monday following Pentecost.  The devotion to Mary, Mother of the Church, reflected in the Mariology of Church Tradition and in the writings of the Church Fathers, used to be celebrated as a Votive Mass since Pope Paul VI inserted into the calendar during the Holy Year of Reconciliation in 1975.

Preparing for PENTECOST

holy spirit

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Thy faithful and enkindle in them the fire of Thy love.  Send forth Thy Spirit and they shall be created and Thou shalt renew the face of the earth.

Here are a few great videos to watch as you prepare for this coming Sunday’s Feast of Pentecost.  I would suggest reading the Mass readings first and then viewing one or both of the videos, brought to us by SOLT and Jeff Cavins/Ascension Presents:

St. Joseph the Worker, pray for us!

SOD-0501-SaintJosephtheWorker-790x480 (1)Today, the Church celebrates the feast day of St. Joseph the Worker.  This feast was instituted by Pope Pius XII in 1955 as a way to both foster a deep devotion to St. Joseph among Catholics and as a response to the Communist-sponsored May Day celebrations.  St. Joseph is a model of the rights and dignity of work and family life.

Prayer to St Joseph for workers and those seeking employment……
Silent and well-known carpenter in Nazareth, model of workers, by the work of your hands you gave your contribution to the work of the Creator, you earned your living, and you provided for the needs of the Holy Family. Intercede for all workers, in the difficulties of their daily lives especially for the unemployed, in their anxieties for tomorrow, so that through the guidance of God, the great Architect and Builder, they all may use their strength and talents to make visible God’s new creation, to offer a concrete service to society, and to earn wages worthy of their efforts. With confidence and trust we make this prayer through Jesus. Amen (Source:  http://www.cdow.org/StJosephTheWorker.pdf)

The Dating Project

the dating project

Dating in today’s day and age seems to be an antiquated thing.  In the last few decades, the meaning of dating has changed from courtship, or finding a suitable person to marry one day to hooking up for casual sex.  The definition of the term has gotten so obscure, even lost, that many young people honestly don’t know what the concept of dating is.  They’ve never even heard of it.  The movie, “The Dating Project” seeks to change that.  It will be showing in Kennewick on April 17th at 7:00 p.m. at the Columbia Mall 8.  For more information, go to:  https://www.thedatingprojectmovie.com/
