Fall 2022 Bible Studies!

We are excited to be able to offer a great variety of Bible Studies this Fall! Some are in person, some are on Zoom and they are all led by amazing people who are on this same journey to learn more about God and our wonderful Catholic Faith!

*NEW* What We Believe: The Beauty of the Catholic Faith: Meets Tuesday Mornings, from 9AM- 11AM in the Gathering Space and the Library; 10 Sessions, starts September 20th, Ends December 6th– Cost: $35

What is the Catholic Church all about? What does it mean to be Catholic? What do Catholics actually believe? The Catholic Church is extraordinary. Founded by Christ himself, the Catholic Church is where we encounter God in his Word, his sacraments, and his saints. The Church faithfully proclaims the fullness of faith, leaving no truth out. It proclaims the fullness of life, leaving no person out. It calls all to repent and to believe in God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, the source of all life and salvation. Maybe you’ve been Catholic your entire life. Maybe you’re just beginning to explore the Catholic Faith. Wherever you may be in your journey, you will be profoundly moved by the beauty and the richness of the Catholic Church.

Epic: A Journey Through Church History: Meets Tuesday Mornings, from 9AM- 11AM in the Youth Center, Lower Level, Room B; 20 Sessions (will continue into next year), starts September 20th, Ends March 7th– Cost: $30

This is our story, our family. As Catholics, we are the inheritors of holy men and women who over two thousand years built a great civilization and spread the gospel throughout the world. The history of the Church is not just the recitation of popes and saints; it is a story of adventure, intrigue, rebellion, reform, and devotion. In this study you will learn about the important people, places, and events in over two thousand years of Church history. You will discover the true stories behind the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, and the Protestant Reformation. You will also learn about the massive persecution of Christians in the twentieth century. Throughout, you will be gaining an understanding of the workings of the Holy Spirit in our Church. The better we know our history, the better prepared we will be to face the future.

Matthew: The King & His Kingdom: Meets Tuesday Nights, from 6:30PM- 8:30PM in the Youth Center (Long Ave.) Lower Floor, Rm. B; 24 Sessions (will continue into next year), starts September 20th, Ends April 4th– Cost: $40

This study shows how Jesus fulfills God’s promises to Israel and establishes his kingdom on earth. Through references to the Old Testament promises of God to his people and the messages God sent them through the prophets, this Bible study provides the key to understanding the rest of the New Testament and Christ as the fulfillment of God’s plan. Matthew portrays Jesus as the true King who fulfills the Law the people of Israel have failed to keep and who introduces the new law that will accompany the New Covenant. In this 24-part study of Matthew’s Gospel, Jeff Cavins explains how Jesus is challenging and empowering us to a new level of holiness and shows how we must be thoroughly immersed in the kingdom of heaven on earth, the Church, to live it.

Life Eternal: Meets on Wednesday Mornings, from 9AM- 11AM in the Lower Level of the Youth Center; 7 Sessions, starts September 21st, Ends November 9th– Cost: $20

The biblical promise of eternal life appears late in Scripture, but it blossoms into fullness with the resurrection of Christ. Explore the growing nature of the hope of those who have called upon the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the past, and the crystallization of our hope for eternal life in the victory of Christ over death. Those with some familiarity with Scripture will find it both inspiring and informative as the hope of eternal life develops and crystallizes through the sweep of salvation history.

Revelation: The Kingdom Yet to Come: Meets Thursday nights on Zoom, from 6:30PM- 8:30PM; 11 Sessions, starts September 22nd, Ends December 8th– Cost: $30

Perhaps no book of the Bible fascinates people more than Revelation. Yet relatively few people have studied it, especially from a Catholic perspective. Revelation: The Kingdom Yet to Come shows how the kingdom established by Christ in his Church is intimately connected with the kingdom of heaven. In this study, presenter Jeff Cavins pulls back the veil on the rich symbolism present in Revelation. Discover what the mysterious figures and images of Revelation mean and see how Revelation is more than an apocalyptic vision of the “end times.” Explore the Church’s teaching on the second coming of Christ and the Last Judgment. Understand how God, the Divine Bridegroom, and the Church, his spotless bride, enter into a heavenly, holy, and mystical marriage every time we celebrate Mass.

SURVIVING DIVORCE:  Meets Monday nights, from 6:30PM – 8:30PM in the lower level of the Youth Center, Room C (1080 Long St, Richland); 12 Sessions, starts September 12th, Ends Dec. 12th                                           Come join others who have experienced separation and divorce. In this video series, Rose Sweet, Catholic author, speaker, and pastoral counselor, tackles the pain and suffering of divorce from her own experience and that of the Catholic Church. Joined by a group of distinguished priests and professionals who have dedicated their lives to helping people understand and cope with loss and grief, they will guide you through the shock, anger, denial, and emotional upheaval of separation and divorce.  Questions? Or to sign up, contact Meggin Sanner (541-571-8402) or ckadultre@gmail.com or Elizabeth at 509-420-4509.

(Extra) Ordinary Time!!

I know, most people do not think about Ordinary Time has being very exciting, it seems more like we are just going back to the normal way of doing things, without all these extra holidays and feast days and special celebrations. Well….. Ordinary Time may actually not be that “ordinary” as we think of it. There are actually so many wonderful Feast Days and Solemnities that we get to celebrate during this time of green vestments! There are so many saints that we get to learn about and honor, there are so many Feast Days that belong to Our Lord and to Mary during this time as well. We just got done with the month of May, which is dedicated, of course to Mary and to all mothers. But now we are in June and this means a special dedication to the Sacred Heart of Jesus (and the Immaculate Heart of Mary)!! So strap yourselves in, because nothing is every just “ordinary” when it comes to the Catholic Church.

If you want to learn about a different saint every day, this website has been very helpful for me- https://www.franciscanmedia.org/saint-of-the-day

If you want to make the Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus or the Immaculate Heart of Mary this month, here is a website that will help walk you through it- https://www.praymorenovenas.com/novena-to-the-sacred-heart-of-jesus

https://www.praymorenovenas.com/novena-immaculate-heart-mary

If you are like me and life is really crazy busy, sometimes the only quiet time you may have is when you are driving around in the car. If so, then these podcast are an excellent way to get in some prayer and learning time while you are driving around, picking up kids, doing errands, etc.

The Way of the Fathers, I recommend this podcast if you are wanting to learn more about how our Catholic Faith developed during those first hundred years or so after Christ- https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly93YXlvZnRoZWZhdGhlcnMubGlic3luLmNvbS9yc3M?sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwishIC5gYvxAhUXrZ4KHes1BSgQ9sEGegQIARAF

And of course, it is always a treat to listen to Dr. Scott Hahn. Here is his podcast, The Road to Emmaushttps://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9lbW1hdXNyb2FkLmxpYnN5bi5jb20vcnNz?sa=X&ved=0CAMQ4aUDahcKEwjA2IbCgovxAhUAAAAAHQAAAAAQaQ

As some of you may know, I graduated from Franciscan University of Steubenville, and I was thrilled to learn that they now have a podcast featuring the president of the university, Fr. Dave and one of its faculty, Bob Rice. It’s called They That Hope and I am always looking forward to their episodes which air every Wednesday (you can also watch the podcast on the Franciscan University website)- https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkLnBvZGJlYW4uY29tL3RoZXl0aGF0aG9wZS9mZWVkLnhtbA?sa=X&ved=0CAMQ4aUDahcKEwiY_P6qgovxAhUAAAAAHQAAAAAQKA

For the ladies- single, married, w/ children, retired, have grandkids, all women- there are so many great resources out there for us as well. I really enjoy listening to Blessed is She– they are on YouTube and have a podcast as well: https://www.youtube.com/c/BlessedisShe/featured

Let Love and Abiding Together are two more great podcasts for us women as well- https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkLnBvZGJlYW4uY29tL3Npc3RlcnNvZmxpZmUvZmVlZC54bWw?sa=X&ved=0CAkQ9sEGahgKEwiotri5gYvxAhUAAAAAHQAAAAAQ1wE

Adult Bible Studies Fall 2020 (we added two more!)

Due to Covid-19, we are going to be doing things differently this year for our Adult Bible Studies. Until it is safe to meet in person, we will be having our bible study for this Fall online. I know some of this is going to be very different from how we normally do things, I just ask for your patience and understanding as we work through this together.

How this is going to work is that if you are wanting to take the bible studies being offered this Fall, (I am only doing two for now, one in the morning and one in the evening, to see how this is going to work and see what kind of response I get) you will need to e-mail or call Meggin Sanner at ckadultre@gmail.com or 541-571-8402.

I will need the following information from you- Your full name, your phone number, e-mail address and your home address. The reason I will need your home address is so that I can mail or drop off your workbook for the bible study. Payments can be mailed to the Church or dropped off in the drop box outside the church office with a note saying that the money is for the Adult Bible Study and which one(s) you are taking.

We will then have a regularly scheduled weekly meeting to discuss the video and questions in the workbook just like always, the only difference will be that we will meet online using Zoom. Every week you will be sent the new link to click on to get into the meeting at the appointed time. After our discussions, we will then say goodbye and everyone can then go and watch the next video online on their own, just like we would normally do. If you have a Zoom account or other online video service and want to lead a small group for one of these studies or lead a group for a different bible study, please let me know.

**The FOUR bible Studies we are offering are: Tuesday Morning at 9AM, starting Sept. 22nd, 2020– “Follow Me” is on the Gospel of John. It is your guide to a personal encounter with Christ. As the Good Shepherd, Jesus seeks after us. He comes to meet us and beckons us to follow him. He calls us to be his disciples, to trust him, to open ourselves to his merciful love, and to love others as he has loved us. Follow Me invites you to experience the joy of a renewed friendship with Christ. (Many of you signed up to take this in the Spring, but it got cancelled due to Covid, so we are trying again). Cost- $25

**Wednesday Evening at 6:30PM, starting Sept. 23rd, 2020– “Jesus: The Way, the Truth and the Life”, a new study by Dr. Edward Sri, Dr. Marcellino D’Ambrosio and Jeff Cavins. Anchored in the life of Christ as presented in the Gospels, this study explores the entirety of Jesus’ life—who he is, what he is really like, what he taught, what he did for our salvation, and what all of this means for us as Catholics today. Cost- $35

NEW***Thursday nights at 6:30PM, starting on September 10th, 2020– Matthew: The King and His Kingdom portrays Jesus as the true King who fulfills the Law the people of Israel have failed to keep and who introduces the new law that will accompany the New Covenant. In this 24-part study of the Gospel of Matthew, presenter Jeff Cavins explains how Jesus is challenging and empowering us to a new level of holiness and shows how we must be thoroughly immersed in the kingdom of heaven on earth, the Church, to live it.  This bible study will be led by John Propson and will continue into the Spring of next year, 2021.  Cost- $40

NEW***Opportunity for prayer: Discovering a Deeper Relationship With the Holy SpiritJoin us for seven weeks of prayer, starting on September 21st, 2020, following the first seven Wild Goose videos, available on YouTube. The videos, each about 25 minutes long, invite us to deepen our relationship with the Holy Spirit. Participants will watch the videos on their own, pray, and note the movement of the Spirit in their lives. We will meet once a week over Zoom at 7:00 PM Mondays for about an hour to pray together, discuss the message of the videos, and share the graces God has granted us. There is no charge for this program and is led by Cathy Exarhos.

Again, if you would like to take one or both of these studies please e-mail or call me at the above e-mail or phone number.

New Schedule and Updates

Hello again everyone! I hope that everyone is still hanging in there and doing well in the summer heat.

Unfortunately, we are having to cancel our indoor Mass. The county was premature in allowing the dispensation and we are now having to wait again until our infection rate drops again.

Our outdoor Mass is still at 6:30PM on Saturday evening and we now also have a Vietnamese Mass that will be offered every Saturday at 7:30PM, beginning last weekend, July 11th. We will still also have a Sunday morning outdoor Mass at 8AM.

The livestreamed Masses are on Saturdays– Spanish at 4pm and English at 5pm. Please pray that do your part as well to help keep our infection numbers going down so we can all come back together again.

Attendance for outdoor Masses is limited to 100 people per Mass; those who attend MUST wear a mask the whole time, maintain a distance of 6 feet from others, and bring their own chairs.

You must register to attend these Masses.  Here’s the link to sign up: https://www.eventbrite.com/o/christ-the-king-parish-30417877024

Please DO NOT attend the outdoor Mass if you are ill or vulnerable (or live with someone who is ill or vulnerable).  Small children should not attend.  Attendance is at your own risk.  The general dispensation from attending Sunday Mass remains in effect.

We are continuing to livestream daily Mass on weekdays at 8AM and a Holy Hour (Exposition, Adoration, and Benediction) on Fridays at 6:30PM.

Confessions! Saturday afternoon at 3:30PM to 5PM in the School Cafeteria!

1. Please park in one of 10 numbered parking spots in the lower parking lot on Stevens Drive.  If the spots are full, wait until one is available.

2. Wait in your car for an usher to indicate your turn.  If you have more than one person in your vehicle, one occupant at a time will proceed to the cafeteria and the others will wait in the car.  No more than 8 per car.

3. Maintain a distance of 6 feet from others.

4. Sign in before you enter the cafeteria; registration is for your own protection/contact tracing and the list will be shredded after 14 days.

5. Be mindful of the time spent in confession so all can be heard.

6. Use the hand sanitizer we’ll have available.

Watch the livestreamed broadcasts here: Christ the King Adult Religious Education channel!

**UPDATE** Here is Bishop Tyson’s official announcement for Fr. Edgar- https://yakimadiocese.org/2020/06/15/fr-edgar-quiroga-assigned-to-christ-the-king-catholic-church/

For more updates from Bishop Tyson, keep on eye on the Diocese’s webpage: https://yakimadiocese.org/

I want to thank everyone for their generosity, their cooperation and selflessness. We have been able to do all of this and start having Confessions again because all of you have been helping us follow the guidelines by wearing your masks and keeping a safe distance from everyone when coming to Mass.

I have also sent out a survey to everyone I had e-mail addresses for asking what their preference was for video meetings and if that would even be an option for them in order to have a virtual bible study. There were also some ideas of what bible studies we could do, since the videos were online. If you have any suggestions/ preferences or would like to take the survey, please e-mail me at ckadultre@gmail.com.

We’re Still Here!!

Hi Everyone! I know it seems like we have been practicing “safe distancing” for months now, but I do see some signs of hope and that the end may be near. There is a plan now in place from our government to help transition the state and everyone back to normal and opening up again.

4 Phase Plan

With that in mind, here is what Catholics should expect and look forward to as we transition back into being able to gather once again physically as the Body of Christ-

What to Expect When Public Mass Resumes

We thank you for your wonderful support and patience as we struggle through navigating this new online environment.

We are still offering livestreamed daily Mass at 8AM on our YouTube channel as well as livestreamed Adoration with Exposition and Benediction at 6:30PM. You may have noticed that we have two scheduled livestreams from St. Paul’s Cathedral in Yakima listed on our channel. On May 15, we will be livestreaming the Transitional Diaconate Ordination Mass for Michael Kelly at 4:45PM and on May 22, we will be livestreaming the Priestly Ordination Mass of Deacon Edgar Quiroga Cebellos at 4:45PM. Please spread the word and come join us on those dates.

Christ the King Adult Religious Education

We are also continuing to call on our parishioners to check in on you and we have noticed that we have a lot of out of date phone numbers. So if you have changed your phone number or have updated your e-mail, please call the parish office so we can update our files.

We are also doing our very best to keep everyone updated, not only from the parish website, but from the new parish Facebook page as well!

Christ the King Catholic Church Facebook Page

As always, we are praying for all of you and we miss you all so very much. If there is anything that you need or just want to talk, please feel free to call any of us. We do have someone in the office to answer the phones during normal work hours. For more information, please visit our parish website- Christ the King Catholic Church

Happy Easter! He is Risen! Alleluia!

Hello Everyone! And Happy Easter!! Rejoice! Be Glad!

This may seem hard to do right now, with all the fear, worry and stress going around due to the pandemic, but as Catholics, as Christians, we know Who holds all of us in His loving hands. We know Who is really in control (even when we want to be the one in control) and we know that He will take care of us. So we Rejoice!! We cry out once again, Alleluia!! He is Risen, death no longer holds it sway! Sin and death have been conquered!!

So come and rejoice, come and celebrate with us all Easter season! We are still holding livestreaming Daily Mass at 8AM, Monday through Friday. We also will still be livestreaming Exposition, Adoration and Benediction at 6:30PM- 7:30PM every weeknight as well from our Youtube channel- Christ the King Adult Religious Education

Here is the Spiritual Communion Prayer that is posted in the video description as well for every Mass:

“My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, Come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already here and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.”

Also, here is a beautiful poem about what we are experiencing right now with only spiritual communion- Spiritual Communion

We are still here, doing whatever we can to reach out to you, to serve your spiritual needs and be a parish community as best we can during this time. As always, please feel free to e-mail, call, text; however you wish to communicate, we are here for you. We miss you all!

Jesus is Risen! Alleluia!! Sing, Dance and Rejoice!

Spring 2020 Bible Study Registrations Open!

Registrations are now available for Spring 2020. Classes will start in January. The following are the classes that are being offered this spring:

Romans– Dr. Andrew Stafford and Jeff Cavins provide an authentically Catholic, comprehensive, and simple way to understand the overarching theme of Romans- salvation. Meets on Tuesdays mornings, 9am-11am in the Gathering Space.

Follow Me: Meeting Jesus in the Gospel of John– Dr. Edward Sri will guide you through John’s Gospel and invite you to encounter Christ every step of the way. Meets on Tuesday mornings, 9am-11am in the Gathering Space (offered after the study of Romans is done)

Symbolon: The Catholic Faith Explained– a stunning new video series that systematically presents the BIG picture of the Catholic Faith. Meets on Tuesday mornings, 9am-11am in the Youth Center, Lower Level, Rm B (this is a Moms Group and childcare is provided)

Unlocking the Mysteries of the Bible– Many people want to read the Bible because they know it is God’s Word but give up because it is so complicated. This study program helps you to get the “big picture” of the Bible by showing how fourteen narratives books of the Bible tell the complete story from Adam and Eve to Christ and the Church. Meets on Tuesday nights, 7pm-9pm in the Youth Center, Lower Level, Rm B.

James, Peter and Jude: The Catholic Letters– This study covers four New Testament letters traditionally known as the Catholic letters because each is written to strengthen Christian communities scattered across a wide region of the Roman Empire. Participants will discover that they contain profound differences as well as intriguing similarities. Meets on Wednesday mornings, 9am-11am in the Youth Center, Lower Level, Rm B

Passion and Resurrection Narratives of Jesus– This study compares the particular insights found in the Passion and Resurrection accounts of the four Gospels. Meets on Wednesday mornings, 9am-11am in the Youth Center, Lower Level, Rm B. (will begin once the study on James, Peter and Jude is finished)

To register, you can find the forms in the foyer of the church or you can e-mail me at ckadultre@gmail.com, giving me your name, phone number, and e-mail address, along with the study that you wish to take. Also, please let me know if you are in need of childcare and it is not already provided for that bible study.

Coming Home 2021

Christ the King Parish

Have you or someone you know been away from the Church? Are you feeling unsure and lost in today’s world?

Have you been coming to Mass, but still don’t feel like you are “getting anything out of it”? Has attending Church simply become a habit, automatic…?

Then we have a program for you! Here you will find a kind, charitable, respectful environment to listen, learn and ask any questions that you might have.

This year is going to be a little different due to COVID-19, but we do intend to still have our Coming Home program! We will meet virtually, through Zoom starting in January (details will follow depending on interest).

If you are interested in Coming Home, you can get in touch with Meggin Sanner at 541-571-8402 or e-mail at ckadultre@gmail.com
